Part oneWhy It Loads So Slowly

In 1873 the Army adopted a revolver everybody ended up calling the Peacemaker. It was single action: the trigger only drops the hammer, so you thumb the hammer back before every single shot.

And there was no cylinder that swung out. You flipped a small gate on the right of the frame and pushed the empties out one at a time with a rod under the barrel. Then you fed six fresh ones back in through the same gate.

Do they hurt?
No. The darts are soft foam with a rounded tip and the muzzle carries a permanent orange safety tip. Normal play at normal distance stings about as much as being flicked with a cotton bud. Eyes are the exception, as with any dart blaster, so aim at targets rather than faces.
Is it safe for kids?
It is built for supervised play. Soft foam darts, a permanent orange muzzle tip, no metal parts and no caps or propellant. The single-action hammer takes real thumb strength, which is part of why it suits older children and adults rather than toddlers.
What age is it for?
14+ is the honest answer for the mechanism. The hammer needs a firm thumb and loading six shells one at a time takes patience. Plenty of owners buy it for a 10 to 13 year old and load it with them, which is exactly how most of them describe using it.
Do the shells fly out on their own?
No, and neither did the original. You open the loading gate and take them out by hand, one at a time. That manual reload is the mechanism people buy this for. If you want brass ejecting on its own, this is the wrong revolver.
